The Holy Island of Lindesfarne http://www.faculty.de.gcsu.edu/~dvess/ids/medieval/lindis/lindisfarne.shtml#history
The Island: Lindesfarne is a tidal island off the northeast coat of England, which is connected to the mainland by a causeway and is cut off twice a day by tides. The name Lindesfarne was given to the Island by the first Anglo-Saxons to live there. The meaning of the word is not known, but the monks of Durham, after the Norman Conquest in 1066, added the words Holy Island when they looked back over the history of the island.
The Golden Age of Lindesfarne: The period of the first monastery is referred to as the "Golden Age" of Lindesfarne.
